The implementation of clinical studies was central to talks in Würzburg between members of the BayImmuNet Coordinating Committee and representatives from BayImmuNet partner companies. The legal requirements placed on the manufacture of so-called 'innovative therapies', which include cell therapies developed with the support of BayImmuNet, pose major challenges for companies and clinical science alike. Closer collaboration and an increased exchange of information are, therefore, the aims for the future.
In this context it was agreed that financial support be obtained for clinical studies which emerge from the Bavarian Immunotherapy Network together with corporate partnerships. "In view of decreasing venture capital, there is currently a large gap in funding for early-phase research. So we are looking at working closely with our partner companies and developing efficient collaboration concepts", according to Professor Reinhard Andreesen, Scientific Director of BayImmuNet.
